Adjusting to Life in Japan

I know it's been a month since my last post, and I think it's because of my adjustment to Japanese life.  Things that seemed odd or funny or unusual in the beginning aren't standing out to me as much, because it's becoming the norm to me.  I'm getting used to the culture and the way of life.  Actually, when I was home in America for a crazy short 3 days for my sister's bridal shower, I went to lunch with the family.  At one point, I picked up my bowl of soup as I was eating out of it, and once I realized, I had to ask if that was normal--or if that was something I picked up in Japan.  Doesn't take long to pick up a habit!

One thing that I do still notice, being American and English as my first language, are the oh so many things that get lost in translation.  T-shirts, phrases on bags, company names, etc.  Take the picture below, for example....I'm pretty sure no letters have fallen from this sign; it is the true name of this business....

Since my last post, I've visited Minami, home to a place called "America-Mura" which is a bustling district full of trendy shops and cafe's that are supposed to cater to teenagers and young adults.  Well, it certainly is more of a place for teenagers (that, or I'm beginning to push the limit as a "young adult"), but I'd be lying if I said I DIDN'T enjoy my time there.  The shopping was good and not far out of the hustle and bustle were larger, more "professional" stores.  I also found a café that served what might have been the best desert French toast I've ever had.  I mean, I might go back just for that desert.  Below are a few pictures of the highlights of my day in Minami.

Last weekend I ventured out to the Hard Rock Café on Universal City Walk.  Although Hard Rock's are world wide, it still felt like a little taste of home.  Had a delicious dinner, delicious drinks, some good American music, and a bit of a hefty bill =).  All worth it though, as a Hard Rock fan.

That's all I have for now.  Enjoy some of the pictures below, and look for another blog in a month or so.  I have a crazy busy August coming up, full of sightseeing and social activities that will surely make for a good blog or two.

No explanation needed.

A street, not far from my apartment

Taught Pasi how to make "reconstructed lasagna", since we couldn't find lasagna noodles or ricotta.  Aka super meaty cheesy fabulous pasta bake

I feel everyone should know these pillows exist.
